About Smith and Garratt
Smith & Garratt is a family-owned firm of specialist surveyors. From our main offices on the Scottish Border we offer services in England and Scotland. Our founding surveyor, Hugh Garratt, is from a farming family and studied at the Royal Agricultural College before becoming a chartered surveyor. Twenty years a land agent he found most enjoyment in overcoming technical challenges.
When aged 40 Hugh decided to take a law degree, after which he saw the opportunity to create a firm specialising in his three special interests – planning and development, heritage buildings and private client advisory work. Smith & Garratt, was founded in 2000 and continues from strength to strength, building a clientele from the private sector, agencies, charities and local government.
